4 Thai Dishes You Must Try

Blog

Whether you're in Thailand itself or simply visiting a Thai restaurant in the States, there are a variety of dishes that you must absolutely try, from hearty chicken dishes to refreshing, crunchy spring rolls. Throughout the course of this brief article, you will learn about just a few of those must-try dishes.

Green Curry Chicken

Don't be fooled. Just because green curry is a bit milder than the usual doesn't mean it's any less flavorful. Although you can order this dish with beef or vegetables, it is traditionally eaten with chicken. The green curry used in this dish is made from green peppers (which still packs an ample amount of heat) flavorful, rich coconut milk, and finally, just a hint of eggplant.

Banana Pancakes

Although most Americans don't associate Thai food with sweet dessert foods, Thailand does quite well in that category. These doughy, square shaped pancakes are cooked with – what else? – bananas. What truly puts them over the top into a category of their own is what they are topped with. More often than not, a thick, white, vanilla flavored syrup is drizzled on top. If that doesn't sound to your liking then the flavor can be changed to hazlenut, strawberry, chocolate, or even orange. You can commonly find this food in street vendor carts in Bangkok.

Tom Yum Goong

Soups seem to be a Thai speciality and once you try out this dish, you will know why. As a seafood lover's dream, this dish is jam packed with shrimp. The broth also includes lemongrass. The taste is akin to a medley of seafood and hot and sour soup. It should be noted that if you have a bit of an issue with spicy foods, you should ask for a milder version of this dish.

Spring Rolls

Much like banana pancakes, spring rolls are a delight than you can find at virtually any street vendor stand. This crunchy, light dish is also often served as an appetizer, especially at American restaurants. A spring roll is jam packed with flavor and often includes a variety of vegetables, like lettuce and celery, that then are placed inside of a lightly fried dough. Spring rolls are often served with a tangy sweet and sour sauce.

If any of these dishes have you salivating, it is highly recommended that you make your way to your local Thai restaurant. Whether you're into chicken, veggies, or spicy soups, Thai food has a little something for everyone.
